Since the beothuk people lived on an island surrounded by water, they fished a lot because of the rich resources in the water. They were surrounded by lush forests so occasionally the beothuk people hunted on land, looking for caribou, beavers, birds, and bird eggs. When the Beothuk's hunted, they did it cleverly. They used spears to hunt caribou, arrows and snares with beavers, and a special type of harpoon they called "a-a-duth" to hunt seals.

Clothing:
The beothuk did not waste any part of the caribou they hunted; they used the skin of the caribou as clothing. It was thick and light and kept them warm during the winter and fall. A fresh skin was scraped to get rid of all flesh and fat hanging from it. They rubbed the brain of the animal on the skin to make it smooth. The skin was stretched and set on a wooden frame, left to dry, than they sewed everything together. During the summer, they went naked except for a deer skin flap, hanging over there belt.
