During the spring, the beothuk people would paint there faces, bodies and things like their canoes
and weapons with red ochre. Red ochre had a lot of cultural significance they would paint there
bodies during and multi-day celebration in the spring. The beothuk people also worshipped the
sun and the moon. When the beothuk people buried there dead they would wrap the dead bodies
in birch bark and bury them in isolated locations

Economy
The beothuk people would carve on the bones of animals to make things like pendants and
jewellery. There was decoration on the pendants but the significance is unknown. No two pieces

Hunting and gathering
Before hunting the beothuk people would make special preparations. They would hunt things like
seal, salmon and caribou. In July families would gather salmon at the rivers. They would hunt
animals in their season so they would get the most out of every animal. They gathered small
plants and berries, as well as small animals. There main source of food was caribou that they
stored for a reliable source of food.

Gender roles
The men women and children were responsible for collecting salmon and small animals and berries
during the spring months. The men were responsible for big game hunting like caribou and the
